That is about all that it does, everything else is the same, import explort, same tools, same plug ins, still has everything and the ability to do everything. Once Maya knows that it is a student license it will say (in pretty small print) Student Edition along the title bar at the top of the winow, in the splash sreeen, and if you go to help > About it will show the license type as student editition. Without breaking it down any more there is a portion of the license text that indicates this a student license. The new more-convienent licensing methods keep people from knowing that any of this is taking place. If Maya is looking in it’s default location for the default license file C:\flexlm\aw.dat and there is not a license there you will get either get a license error or more commonly you will get a dialog box telling you that you must begin the registration proccess (the OPA wizard). there are also dongle license (not on the SE) but I wont go there. If you are using floating you point it to the license server but in the case of the SE (or any locked version) you point it in the direction of the directory where the license file resides. Basically you set up (or in Maya’s case it comese pre-setup along with the installatin) FLEXlm to look for a license. ![]() Which is a very widely used software license program.
